Wang Dong hotels & places to stay

First off, the place is beyond beautiful. My wife and I are all about the experience with our kids, so we booked a tent for our stay, excited to go "glamping". We felt like we were in an outdoor wonderland for our first afternoon. Then the corporate parties started outside after dark and ruined the entire feel of the resort. They were nice enough to move us the following two nights into the hotel, for no extra charge, but the staff was so busy catering to the corporations there for their retreats that the service was quite bad. It could be that they are understaffed. They try to help, but every time I heard "Let us get that for you" or "I'll have someone come help", after waiting 15-20 minutes I would just walk to the reception. I've never had to talk to the front desk of a hotel more than I did in our 3 nights here. It's unfortunate, because from the outside this seems like a 4-5 star place, but the service leaves much to be desired.

my son and i stayed at this hotel for one night just before the crowded season for the 2013 new year countdown. all guests (in less than 10 rooms out of about a hundred) got rooms with the scenic river view. we were told by the receptionist that the hotel was typically less than 10 per cent occupied throughout the year. the parking lot was a bit far from our room and there was no security guard in view. (there was probably no need for a parking lot security guard since the hotel was practically in the middle of a jungle.) our room was new and clean. air conditioning, ventilation, and hot water all worked well. there was a separate shower section from the bath tub but the shower partition was a bit rusty. the tv set worked fine. there were a variety of programs and the quality of their satellite reception was excellent - better than we saw in bangkok. unfortunately, our stay was so short that i did not have time to use many features and services of the hotel, including the business centre, the game room with a big pool table, and a swimming pool that looks modern and clean. be warned that breakfast that comes with the room is buffet only if the hotel is occupied to a certain threshold. below that, the included breakfast is à la carte. (i read in some other posts that there is another threshold below which the restaurant was not even open!) the strength of the hotel has to do with its location. my son and i woke up at 5 in the morning and spent about 3 hours taking beautiful pictures of the river and the area around the hotel. all-in-all, we are very pleased with this hotel and will definitely return - - whenever we need to be in the waterfall areas north of kanchanaburi.

the owner, is an amazing woman who does her best to ensure that your stay is absolutely perfect. i travelled with two friends and we stayed in the three-person bungalow. it was ideal as we wanted to visit erawan falls during the day and use the resort as a place to crash. we were surprised at the amazing beauty of the resort; it's set amidst rice fields and next to a dam. the mountains serve as a lovely backdrop in which to awaken to. we ended up extending our stay by another night because rose told us about phalad waterfall, an apparently unseen sight of thailand. a short walk from the resort, it's better than erawan falls. it was essentially deserted and there wasn't really a path to go up to all seven tiers, so we literally climbed the waterfalls. it was the best experience that i've had in thailand yet, and i hope to visit rose and her resort again soon. just keep in mind that the resort is 40 km outside of kanchanaburi, so once you're at the resort, it's difficult to get back into town.
