"The best part about it was the environment of the hostel, they were really comfortable and cozy feel, great after a long day of sightseeing/shopping we had no trouble sleeping! The bedrooms were basic, but had everything you needed for this price point. The wash rooms were very new and clean, and it equipped with hot water, toiletries, and even hair dryer, basically everything you needed for a refreshing shower after a long day of exploring outside. For us the best bit was the location and the price. The location was great for us as we mainly visited the downtown of Kota Kinabalu, it was walking distance to tourist attractions such as waterfront KK, local flea market, and major shopping malls. We actually ended up walking most places, even down to Suria KK and jesselton point, but we did take a grab back! The most annoying thing about walking is having to cross the street every block, as the traffic is kind of busy at the area, which can add a lot of time onto a journey."

"The room itself was spacious with a decent en suite and had all the basics: towels, a TV, accessible plug sockets and a bedside table. The major downsides were the WIFI was terrible (although that seems common across Sabah) and it’s incredibly difficult to find. It’s on the 3rd floor of a strange shopping centre but there are no signs to point you in the right direction. If you follow the signs to the Switz Hotel and then walk 20m to the left you will find Storytel. We also stayed in Sakot Backpackers (in Kota Kinabalu) a week later and Storytel was a much more pleasant place to stay. "

"Vibrant hostel is the place to be when you’re in Kota kinabalu. Why? It’s the location which is conveniently located at the heart of the city just beside the chic IMAGO SHOPPING CENTER. It is 10 minute ride from the KK international airport and the staff especially MARY my savior from all the queries that I ask. She is really helpful, respectful and lovable staff. And the guy(I forgot his name wearing glasses) is also very good and easy to talk to. Keep up the good work and I will definitely comeback and spread the good news of vibrant hostel. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for its super clean facilities, comfy bed and clean bathrooms and most importantly friendly and reliable staffs. Frank "

"Pros- complimentary self-service laundry & dryers. So dont need to bring smelly-dirt clothes back to KL. Shower was topnotch !! Awesome scented room & toilet Hotel provide house slippers than u can u can within hotel premises. Which is awesome btw! Also, the staff let us to leave our luggage at the hotel reception while we go shopping at KK Times Square. Excellent service! Cons - breakfast menu was alright. However the portion was too small. Husband ordered toast & baked beans. The beans was given a size of table spoons & a piece of bread. Myself ordered Nasi Lemak - the sambal wasnt cook. Purely a readymade paste and not authentic nasi lemak at all. And non-refillable coffee (thats sad) We both just came back from 2/1 night hiked Mount KK and least we need decent breakfast. Other than that, the hotel located adjacent to KK Times Square and less than 1km walking distance to Pasar Besar - where u can look for local souvenirs and foods! "

"My friend and I stayed here on our way in to diving and trekking round Sabah, Borneo. We loved it so much we decided to stay here on our way back out of Kota Kinabalu! It's a hostel so the rooms are simple and not decorated much, but what we loved so much about this place was everything was so clean! The rooms, the beds, the common room, the bathrooms and showers!! All clean, all the time! Most hostels I've stayed at can never keep everything so clean, but Akinabalu does it! The staff are also really friendly and welcoming and offer their help with most anything we needed including booking buses and taxis, and such. The breakfast is not really a breakfast at all, so we usually walked down the street to "Fung-ip cafe." There are a bunch of other restaurants on the same strip and everything except beer is quite cheap. Would love to stay at this place again if I make it back to KK!"

"This is one of the best hostels I've stayed in three months backpacking through South East Asia. The bed is comfortable, and they provide curtains which gives you more privacy. The staff is really kind and they give you a real breakfast: Milk, cereals, juice, cake, pancake, peanut butter, jam, noodles, even sausages! And the shower was even better than mine at home! If you smoke don't worry there is a smoking area for you "
