River Kwai hotels & places to stay

we stayed in a family room which was very spacious. it contained a king sized bed & also a oversized single bed. bathroom had both a rain shower & also a bath tub. great luxurious hotel with a huge swimming pool, modern gymnasium, 2 restaurants (one over the river kwai). upon arrival, we were served arrival drinks of lemongrass (made by the hotel) & there was a fruit platter & also 3 macaroons awaiting in the room. there were daily exercise classes available by the pool (eg. stretching, taichi). breakfast was included, not buffet style though. a choice of either western (eggs, ham, sausage, toast) or asian (porridge, rice or congee). we could order as much as we liked & we could also order any juice or hot drinks with it. there was also a serve of assorted hand made bread available & fruits were served after the meal. meals in the restaurant were reasonably priced for lunch & dinner. the spa in the hotel costs about 3 times more than the typical thai ones elsewhere (less than in western countries still) but the service and the atmosphere is just so luxurious & calming. we had a massage in a group of 3 in the large rotunda room (the best room at the best spa) & it actually costs less than in the private rooms. it had great views of the garden with its large windows all around. overall, a very new hotel (5 stars) with superb class & immaculate service (well trained staff, although their english is not that fluent) & probably the best available in khanchanaburi!

A real boutique resort located on Kwai Yai River bank with mountains as a backdrop, close to the famous River Kwai Bridge. Our second great time at the hotel. Top quality in every expects: rooms, garden, facilities etc. Room is compact, but very well fitted with exquisite amenities. Varieties of complementary excellent tea and real coffee (also a coffeemaker in room!) Complimentary fruits everyday. Delicious 6 Choices of breakfast menu and more choices of top quality tea & coffee at the restaurant on the river bank make our morning wonderful. Top of the top! Chill-out seating on the river bank, swimming pool facing the river, manicured lawns/garden and library make our stay memorable. Above all, 5-star services and hospitality of every staffs from manager to gardeners. The River Kwai Bridge, shops and restaurants are in the walking-distance. Every trip to Kanchanaburi, we'll always stay at this place, for sure! Tip Keeree-Tara restaurant is the best, only 5 minute-walk. Going out at night, walk 10 minutes further crossing the railroad and continue a bit, you will find a small road full with small bars and food stalls.

Great location. It's only about 100-200 metres to the River Kwai Bridge, Art gallery & War Museum, and the day market (where they sell Thai snacks, souvenirs, gem jewellery, clothes, food). It's along River Kwai, and buffet breakfast (freshly cooked eggs such as sunny side up or omelette, sausages, toast, salad such as lettuce, cherry tomatoes, sweet corn, egg fried rice, juices, coffee and tea, yogurt) is served at the open dining area that's along the river Kwai. Rooms have fast speed wifi, it's clean with towels, bottled shower foam and shampoo and free 2x mineral water daily. Twin beds is actually 2x super single beds that's joined together, hence looked much bigger. Resort provides tuk tuk to night market (abt 40baht/pax) to the night market (open space temporary stalls selling food, snacks, clothes, souvenirs, etc) that's near the Railway station. Tuk tuk from resort to Kanachanburi bus terminal is 100baht for 2pax. Resort offers day tours to nearby sightseeing (waterfall, elephant rides, tiger temple, death railway, etc), but unable to customise (hence we opted for a taxi to bring us around instead). Staffs were helpful as they immediately sent someone to help when we commented that the toilet flush is chocked. There's a mini swimming pool within the resort premises too. Definitely a much better location then staying at City centre.

i was staying in the hotel for 2D1N during Oct 2017. The hotel is just newly opened in this year. The hotel is located near to River Kwai Bridge area. If you are travel to kanchanaburi via thai railway, so i advice you to get down from train at River Kwai Bridge Station instead of Kanchanaburi Station (1 station more after Kanchanaburi Station if travel from Bangkok direction) & can be reachable by walking from the train station in about 800meters. The hotel room is very spacious, clean & comfort. For facilities wise, the hotel is equiped with swimming pool, sun tan deck & pool table at roof top. The staffs are friendly & nice to answer our queries.

Lovely staff. Got small swiming pool, pond and garden, with restaurant facing river kwai which it is good to dine there at night or in the morning. Love the banana and coconut shake. Breakfast is lovely and have plenty of choices. We stayed in room #105. The room is little bit small 20 sqm but enough to fit in a large luggage and 2 backpacks. Wifi there though not so good/stable but i feel my dtac 4g there also not so good either, may be it's telco's fault we can't blame the resort. About 20 min walk to river kwai bridge. You can rent a car nearby for 1300 baht a day and half a tank of petrol which cost 400 baht for 300km drive. Quiet room as the room is not too near to the river which there may have party boats during weekend.

A Very nice Hotel from our Spa bath room which was very spacious and overlooked the river Kwai to the beautiful pool and garden areas. Was very easy to sit in the garden area with a relaxing drink just watching the river flow by. The hotel location is an easy walking distance to everything you need, Restaurants, Bars, 7/11, and only a short distance from the Bridge over the river Kwai.

The location is good, near the River Kwai Bridge and easy to find by Google Maps with many restaurants nearby. Small but peaceful hotel with no elevator (recommend to book 1st floor room for pool view and easily access to the pool). Friendly staff. BF choice is not so variable but ok for this price. Room is clean. Only one con is water drains very slow when you take a shower. Worth the money.

Picked this hotel day before travel, it looked lovely in the description and it lived up to the reviews. Lovely gardens, lovely pool, staff happy to organise taxis to River Kwai bridge or into town for a meal. River Kwai Bridge less than 15 minutes walk or better still a 40 baht trike ride (booked from hotel). Good restaurants nearby and also many bars which were of the girly bar type but still very welcoming for couples. Hotel buffet breakfast was good although not with a great selection of dishes but certainly enough for us. Room was lovely, nice size with large bathroom. Shower was good with plenty of hot water. Only small negative was room dividing walls a little thin so could hear guy next door snore which kept my girlfriend awake although not me. The air con seemed fine and quiet but developed a loud noise every so often, reported to front desk who said they would deal with that. These were minor issues of an overall superb stay at a lovely hotel. I would definitely stay again. Small Tip. We found that at night the restaurants, area around River Kwai Bridge was basically shut down, no market, most restaurants closed. Only the floating restaurant was open with a few couples eating. The evenings tend to see more people go into town (turn right out of hotel) which we did on our second night and that was a real fun time. Lots of good quality restaurants with a 10 minute walk or 3 minute trike ride in that area.

Our stay at The River Kwai hotel was very smooth and a memorable one. What made it memorable firstly was the “easy to talk with” and friendly staff. They provided a lot of useful information to guide me in Kanchanaburi and melted away all my worries with their intoxicating smiles when needed. So, a big thumbs up to the staff there! Secondly, the food at the hotel restaurant was a delight. We have been staying in Thailand for 4 years but I have never savored Thai food so much. Thirdly, the central location of the hotel made it easier for me to go around as convenient stores and shops were close by. And lastly, rooms were fairly spacious. Overall, it was a pleasurable experience putting aside all my work commitments for a while breathing the River Kwai air. We found it as a home away from home and I am sure you will too.

We enjoyed our stay at the Princess River Kwai. It's hard to find and not convenient in the sense that you can't walk anywhere. However, it is a short drive to the main street and attractions of the city. If you have your own vehicle, it's fine. The rooms are nice, and the property is well maintained. They have a small breakfast buffet that is adequate. There is a coffee shop on site, and they have a small pool which we didn't use (too deep for little kids). The staff was nice, and they were kind enough to give our children food to feed the river fish at sunset. We'd recommend this hotel for those with their own vehicles that don't mind having to drive a bit to get to other restaurants and attractions.

Clean and welcoming hotel ! Prices are ridiculously low for this kind of place : rooms are huge, towels changed everyday, big and nice swimming pool, and the resort is located really close to the River Kwai. The only setback is that the guy a the reception did not understand one word of English, so you better have no reclamation or special requests (we asked him to order a taxi for the day after, he did not do it). Overall it was one of the best place we stayed at in Thailand, would go again for sure !

It was a nice stayed here. We’ve booked 2 pool villas for a group of 12 people for our company team building trip. The villa is quite big with 2 floors, 3 king beds size and 2 bathrooms. We had an extremely good time at the water park. There’re a lot of fun activities. The staffs there were very friendly and helpful. One of my friends was accidentally dropped the iPhone in the lake. The staff didn’t hesitate to help her find the phone at all. Finally, we found it and luckily it still works well. A very massive thanks again on behalf of my friend. We were very shocked at that time so we forgot to ask the name of that guy who helped us. But once again, we very much appreciate his help. We also loved the breakfast in the morning with the sunrise on the floating raft. Nice view, good food and excellent service. We will definitely go back again!! :-) Highly recommendation. Hotel located approx 5-10 min ride from main centre. The location is ideal for those wanting somewhere relaxing and away from busier areas but still accessible to them. It is also handily located for the roads out of town to Errewan waterfalls and Bridge on River Kwai. All the staff, from the security and maintenance up to the reception and managers are extremely polite and helpful. Do not be surprised if they engage you in conversations as they are keen to improve their English The rooms are a good size and very tastefully decorated. There are two swimming pools with one overlooking the River Kwai..lovely setting. Breakfast was good. Nice coffee shop adjacent to the hotel if you need a caffeine fix.

Great 2 night stay at the Tara Raft house. The location overlooking the river Kwai is beautiful as is the sunset. Grab a beer and sit in the swing and watch the sun go down. The rooms are on a floating pontoon. The further out your room is on the pontoon, the better the view. Ask for rooms 6,8 or 10. The bed was so comfy unlike all others I have slept in in Thailand. Only a 5 min walk to the centre for food/bars. As a solo female traveller I felt safe walking home despite having to walk down a side road as the locals were very welcoming and friendly. They only serve breakfast here but the VN raft house is next door if you fancy a bite to eat and don't want to walk into town. I ate there and the food is good. Definitely recommend the Tara raft house to stay at.

We loved our stay here and highly recommend if you are in Kanchanaburi!! Staff: incredibly helpful and kind, and they speak English very well. They went above and beyond to help us route our transport to the next location and ensured we bought our train tickets before the station closed -- they saved us here! Amenities: air con, beautiful pool, delicious breakfast included, very modern hotel, FREE bikes to get around town (it is very safe and easy to bike around), strong wifi Location: right next to bridge on the river Kwai, a bit farther than the main tourist bars (only a 20 minute walk and 7ish minute free bike ride). We loved being closeby but not in the heart of farong touristvile :-) GREAT value. You will love this hotel and the staff. HIGHLY recommend!!!

Ban Kaeng Sian Resort is 3.8 Kms north west of the river Kwai bridge, 8.2 kms from Kanchanaburi’s bus terminal. We actually enjoyed the location - easily reached with the scooter we had rented in town and a good base to visit the area. The staff at Ban Kaeng Sian Resort is super nice and helpful. The resort is virtually brand new (finished less than 2 years ago) with a few bungalows built around a beautiful garden and a swimming pool which is a pleasure during or after a ‘hot’ day! Our bungalow was cute and comfortable. Excellent bed (we like firm mattresses) in a clean room, hot shower in a pretty good size bathroom, fresh towels every day of our 4 day stay and good breakfast. There was nothing more we could have expected and undoubtedly Ban Kaeng Sian Resort gave us excellent value. I highly recommend it!

First of all, the owner was super nice and helpful. He took us to find a place to rent a vehicle, and even drove us to the bus station as we were leaving. The breakfast was delicious, i especially liked the sandwiches. The location was good, close to a Thai style grilled seafood/meat buffet place and other restaurants, and a short bicycle ride away from the bridge over river Kwai (we rode there with the bicycles we rented from the hotel). This hotel was one of the best things in Kanchanaburi for us. Would stay again.

I have 3 stars for the location because of its proximity to the road. You can here all truck traffic as it passes the north side of the property. The owner was very generous to have offered and given us a bott;evof red wine. It was delicious and greatly appreciated. We will stay at this hotel again on our next visit to Kanchanaburi. Deliscious and nicely presented breakfast. Purchase dinner at their Restuarant on our last night, all meals were very tasty.

Stayed here for 2 nights from the 7th-9th January. When we arrived our Bungalow that we booked was not available so they put us into a "New Room" which was great. Views over the River Kwai and very quiet and tranquil. The room was spacious with a large bed, separate bathroom, small fridge and Air Con. Free WiFi was available but didn't work in the room at all. On the second night we were moved to our Thai Bungalow but wished that we had asked to stay in the 1st room. The room itself was great with all the same amenities but very noisy as it was just across from the restaurant / bar which was busy every night. The pool was very clean and large with seating available. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced. Within walking distance to many bars and restaurants nearby. Was only 80 baht to get to Bridge over River Kwai in Tuk Tuk (Aud $3 roughly). Free parking available at no charge. Great place to stay but book a quiet room.

Really nice little B&B and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The location is great on the main strip about 15-20 minutes walk to the bridge over the river kwai but its also quite easy to get to other attractions. its close to Kanchanaburi station by taxi but would not recommend walking though as the route is not great with luggage (Take one of the taxis waiting outside the station and negotiate the best price no more than 90 - 100 baht as of Aug 2019). The Rooms have everything you need Water, Towels, Toiletries and the shower has hot water. Some songthaews run on the main street and you will see small taxi bikes every now and then but if you have trouble getting a taxi to get around ask the staff and they will help (FYI - Grab Taxi doesnt seem to be operational in Kanchanaburi). Many food & massage options around. 7-Eleven 5 mins away! overall extremely good for the price. Definitely recommend!!

We had a great 2-night stay at Warm Well hostel during our trip in Kanchanaburi. We booked 2 triple rooms, both rooms and bathroom are nice, clean and spacious, with all needed facilities. The hostel is nicely decorated and attractive, providing many good angles for some nice photo shots with friends. The host was really nice and helpful. They provide kitchen and nice breakfast for all guests if needed, and some other service (for instance, bike renting). The host also gave us a recommendation of restaurants in Kanchanaburi, with a nice touch of some "Thai teaching". The location is convenient, within walking distance to the Bridge on the River Kwai and 5-min drive to JJ night market. Overall, the hostel is a great choice for group of friends or even family, good value for money. Thanks for the stay!
